47 Minnesota news organizations partner with GiveMN to elevate local news

Minneapolis, Minn. – The Minnesota Star Tribune in concert with Give MN today announced its participation in Local News Giving Day on Thursday, April 30. Residents across the state are encouraged to support the local news organizations that inform, connect, and strengthen their communities.

As local newsrooms nationwide face ongoing financial pressures, this campaign underscores that sustaining this important work requires community investment.

Every day, journalists at the Minnesota Star Tribune and other local outlets report on the decisions shaping Minnesota—from city halls and school boards to small businesses and neighborhoods— assuring access to accurate, timely, and independent information.

Through Local News Giving Day, Minnesotans can support local news organizations participating in a statewide campaign dedicated to preserving local journalism. There are 47 newsrooms represented from across Minnesota, and donations help fund the reporters, photographers, and editors who bring essential stories to light and hold institutions accountable.

“Local journalism plays a critical role in helping communities understand themselves and each other,” said Shane Guiter, Vice President of Philanthropy at the Minnesota Star Tribune. “Support from readers makes it possible for newsrooms like ours—and many others across Minnesota—to continue delivering trusted, in-depth reporting.”

The campaign provides an opportunity for individuals to give directly to participating Minnesota news outlets. For those who do not see their preferred publication listed, additional support can be directed through the Minnesota News Media Initiative (MNI)—an initiative of the Minnesota Newspaper Association and a registered 501(c)(3) organization that partners with hundreds of newspapers statewide.

“Now is the time to invest in the future of local news,” Guiter added. “Every contribution helps ensure that strong, independent journalism continues to serve Minnesota communities for generations to come.”
