New athlete pages will give Minnesota high school athletes dedicated destinations featuring stats and more, while “Strib Varsity Live with Randy Shaver” returns for another season
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Minnesota Star Tribune today announced Season 2 of Strib Varsity, its destination for comprehensive coverage of high school sports across Minnesota. Building on the momentum of its inaugural season, Strib Varsity is expanding the experience for athletes, families and fans with new dedicated athlete pages and the return of “Strib Varsity Live with Randy Shaver.”
Launched in 2025, Strib Varsity brought the Minnesota Star Tribune’s high school sports journalism together with scores, schedules, statistics, livestreaming and team and school information in one destination. Covering more than 500 high schools and hundreds of thousands of student-athletes statewide, Strib Varsity was designed to connect Minnesota’s passionate high school sports communities and make it easier to follow the teams and athletes that matter most to them.
For Season 2, Strib Varsity is putting an even greater spotlight on the athletes themselves.
New Strib Varsity athlete pages will provide Minnesota high school athletes with personalized, dedicated pages featuring individual statistics and other information about their high school sports careers. The new experience will make it easier for fans, families and communities to follow individual athletes and their accomplishments throughout the season, while creating a new way to discover the people behind high school sports across Minnesota.

- Comprehensive statewide coverage with in-depth reporting, expert analysis, scores, schedules, stats and stories about the athletes and teams shaping Minnesota high school sports.
- Dedicated destinations for Minnesota schools and sports, making it easy for fans and families to follow their teams throughout the season.
- The return of “Strib Varsity Live with Randy Shaver,” bringing highlights, analysis and Shaver’s unmistakable perspective on Minnesota high school football to fans throughout the season.
Additionally, the Strib Varsity newsroom team will be expanding its coverage of both hockey and high school recruiting. Following in the successful footsteps of Football Across Minnesota and Basketball Across Minnesota, two new streams will launch: Hockey Across Minnesota and Recruiting Across Minnesota. Olivia Hicks and Marcus Fuller will be the reporters most often bringing these exclusive pieces to Strib Varsity readers and viewers.
After returning to live high school sports broadcasting with Strib Varsity’s launch last year, longtime Minnesota sportscaster Randy Shaver will be back for Season 2 of “Strib Varsity Live with Randy Shaver.” The show will once again showcase high school football action from around the state, combining game highlights with the storytelling and enthusiasm that have made Shaver synonymous with Minnesota high school football for generations of fans.
“I can’t wait to bring back ‘Strib Varsity Live’ for another season,” said Randy Shaver. “This year marks my 46th fall of covering Minnesota high school football.
