Enhanced reader experience – including revamped web and app presences – expected to launch later this year

Minneapolis, Minn. – The Star Tribune Media Company, the largest news organization in the Midwest, today announced it has selected Code and Theory as its digital agency of record to help relaunch its web and app products. As part of the partnership, Code and Theory will work alongside the Star Tribune to redesign and redefine its digital presence and products as a modern, future-focused media organization serving all of Minnesota.

“We’re excited to offer our readers and subscribers a significantly enhanced digital experience,” said Aron Pilhofer, Chief Product Officer, Star Tribune. “Through refreshed technical, design and product systems, we are going to work together to reimagine what local coverage and connection means in the digital age. And we’re thrilled to work with the industry-leading Code and Theory team to push our digital products into the future.”

Having launched more than 200 websites for companies, including Bloomberg, Vogue and the LA Times, Code and Theory has a strong heritage of being the go-to agency for implementing content and publishing across digital experiences.

“It’s not every day that you get to help reinvent an iconic, 157-year-old business that means so much to so many,” said Michael Treff, CEO, Code and Theory. “No one knows Minnesota and the Midwest as well as the Star Tribune. We are going to distill all that makes it distinct to its readers, and advertisers, to create a modern and performant digital experience. This new platform will not only differentiate the Star Tribune, it will allow it to lead the next wave of evolution for local media.”

Like many local media organizations, the Star Tribune is at a pivotal moment in the history of the industry. The media company is taking significant steps to reinvent itself and create the leading model for local news in America. This partnership is the latest in a series of strategic investments aimed at driving innovation in media to make every Minnesotan’s life better.

Earlier this year, the Star Tribune announced an expansion into Greater Minnesota and significant investment in breaking news resources. That announcement came on the heels of adding new strategic leadership roles including a  Chief Product Officer as well as a new Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Communications and Brand Marketing. Previously, new CEO and Publisher Steve Grove announced plans for a reorganization aimed at a digital future.
