Part of the North Star Live series hosted by Allison Kaplan, Nassif will speak on building an iconic brand and staying true to your roots

Minneapolis, Minn. — The Minnesota Star Tribune today announced an upcoming North Star Live event featuring Monica Nassif, founder of the household brand Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day. Hosted by the Minnesota Star Tribune’s Allison Kaplan, Nassif will share insights on entrepreneurship, creativity and finding inspiration in everyday life on Thursday, May 7 at ModernWell in Minneapolis.

Nassif, who helped transform the household cleaning products industry, will discuss highlights from her new book, “I Bottled My Mother” — a compelling blend of memoir and startup guide. The book chronicles her journey building two successful brands—Caldrea and Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day—and introduces audiences to the real Mrs. Meyer: her 93-year-old mother, Thelma, whose practical wisdom and Midwestern values inspired the company’s identity. Thelma will join Monica at this pre-Mother’s Day event.

“Monica didn’t just build a brand—she bottled a legacy,” said event host Allison Kaplan, director of innovation and engagement for the Minnesota Star Tribune. “Her story is one of grit, authenticity and the power of staying true to your roots.”

Inspired by Thelma Meyer—a resourceful mother of nine known for her no-nonsense approach and love of gardening—Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day has become a widely recognized household name. Nassif later sold the company to SC Johnson in 2008, where the brand continues to thrive today.

The evening will be moderated by Allison Kaplan who brings more than 20 years of experience as a journalist, editor, broadcaster and entrepreneur, and is known for her work fostering community connection through storytelling. Kaplan publishes the Minnesota Star Tribune newsletter North Star Insider every Monday and Thursday, focused on business and entrepreneurship in Minnesota.

Tickets are $40, and capacity is limited. The event is designed for aspiring entrepreneurs, marketing professionals and anyone interested in Minnesota-based success stories. Attendees will receive a complimentary copy of “I Bottled My Mother” as well as Mrs. Meyer’s products, courtesy of SC Johnson.
