Star Tribune believes it is important to maintain safe, healthy, and efficient operations and to protect the safety and security of Company employees, property and equipment. With these basic objectives in mind, the Company has established a Pre-Employment Drug Testing policy. It is Star Tribune’s policy to require applicants for employment in pre-designated jobs who have received conditional offers of employment from the Company to undergo a pre-employment urinalysis drug test as a condition of employment, before beginning work. This policy is not intended to be and should not be considered a contract for employment.
Applicants for employment who have received conditional offers of employment from the Company to work for any of the Company’s facilities are required to undergo a pre-employment urinalysis drug test as a condition of employment, before beginning work.
Any applicant whose urine specimen tests positive on a confirmatory test required by the Company and who does not timely and successfully refute the test results by explanation or retesting will not be hired.
Applicants may refuse to undergo drug testing. However, applicants who refuse or fail to undergo testing or who fail to cooperate with the testing procedures will not be hired. Any applicant who obstructs the testing process in any way will be deemed to have failed to cooperate with the testing procedures. Applicants who test positive on the drug test or who refuse to submit to the test will not be considered for a position in the Company for a maximum of six months from the date they tested positive or refused to submit to the test.
Applicants who test positive on a drug test may submit in writing to the Company additional information to try to explain the confirmed positive test result. The Company must receive the explanation within three working days after the test subject has been informed of the confirmed positive test result. Furthermore, within five working days after the applicant has been informed of the confirmed positive test result, the applicant may request of the Company, in writing, a confirmatory retest of the original sample at his or her own expense.
This policy does not apply to (1) intra-Company transfers (i.e., employees transferring within Star Tribune); (2) applicants for employment as truck drivers who are covered by the Company’s DOT required testing policy and who will be tested in accordance with the Company’s DOT policy); or (3) applicants for employment as interns (from a recognized internship program) or temporary workers employed less than 90 days.
