David Walsh Named Star Tribune SVP of AdvertisingMinneapolis/St. Paul - (February 7, 2008) - David J. Walsh has been named senior vice president of advertising at the Star Tribune, Publisher and Chairman Chris Harte announced today.
Walsh most recently was vice president for classified print and online advertising at the Los Angeles Times. Prior to that he was vice president of interactive and classified advertising at Tribune Interactive in Chicago, where he worked with 10 Tribune Company daily newspapers.
“David was selected to lead our advertising department not only because of his breadth of experience and proven sales management ability, but also for his enthusiastic entrepreneurial approach and strong team building skills,” Harte said. “Over the past 20 years he has held a rich variety of management jobs in newspaper, niche and interactive media that give him an excellent understanding for how to combine and sell our entire product portfolio. He also has considerable experience in new product development and has been an innovator in making print and online media complement each other.”
Earlier in his career, Walsh was president of Relcon, Inc., a Tribune Company subsidiary that focused on the apartment rental and new construction business. He doubled the company’s revenue and transformed a niche print company into a successful online business, which is now part of Apartments.com.
Walsh, a native of Chicago, is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a BS in communications and also completed the Harvard Business School General Management Executive Program. He replaces Mike LaBonia, who left the company.
