Star Tribune Women’s Lecture Series announces 2008 season headliners

Minneapolis/St. Paul - (November 7, 2007) - The Star Tribune announced today the five featured speakers for the 2008 Star Tribune Women's Lecture Series, presented by Herberger’s and produced by SMART TALK™. They are: Valerie Plame Wilson, Geralyn Lucas, Tina Brown, Lisa Ling and Jane Fonda.

These accomplished women will share their inspiring stories in lectures at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. The series starts with Valerie Plame Wilson on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. A question-and-answer session follows each lecture.

Tickets for the 2008 lecture series go on sale to the general public Friday, Nov. 9, 2007. Tickets are sold only as a total series subscription. Prices range from $169 - 289. Valerie Plame Wilson – CIA MOM

Wednesday, Feb.6 at 7:30 p.m. at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis

In 2003, Valerie Plame Wilson, wife, mother and CIA covert operations officer, found herself at the heart of a political firestorm after her identify became jeopardized. This not only left her jobless, but compromised her family’s safety as well. Plame is sure to mesmerize with her story. Her much anticipated memoir, “Fair Game,” recently hit bookshelves and a feature film is being released.

Geralyn Lucas – WHY I WORE LIPSTICK

Thursday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis

Geralyn Lucas was happily working in her dream job as a 20/20 producer when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 27. Her memoir, “Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy,” was made into an Emmy-nominated movie. Lucas recently celebrated her 11th year as a breast cancer survivor and she became a mom for the second time. She is an inspirational voice for all women.

Tina Brown – PRINCESS DIARIES

Tuesday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis

A journalist, columnist, talk-show host and author, Tina Brown is the most talked about magazine editor in the world. Following her unprecedented success at Vanity Fair, Brown went to the New Yorker, where she became the first woman to serve as editor. Marking the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, Brown’s 2007 book, “The Diana Chronicles,” is a biography of the people’s princess and a personal friend.

Lisa Ling – THE ULTIMATE EXPLORER

Tuesday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis

Special correspondent for “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and the National Geographic Channel, Lisa Ling has investigated injustices from the AIDS orphans’ crisis in Uganda to bride burning in India. She is the host of an Oxygen Network series about injustices directed toward girls around the world called, “Who Cares about Girls?”. Previously, she was co-host of Barbara Walters’ hit talk show, “The View.” She also is a contributing editor for “USA Weekend Magazine.”

Jane Fonda – MY LIFE SO FAR

Wednesday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis

Jane Fonda is a defender of social change, environmental issues and human rights. An Oscar and Emmy Award winning actress, she has found tremendous success on stage and screen. Her 2005 memoir, “My Life So Far,” immediately went to number one on The New York Times Bestseller List and “Monster-In-Law,” her first film in 15 years, became the number one box office hit, making her the first person to simultaneously have a number one book and a number one film.
