The Star Tribune introduces zoned local news sectionsMinneapolis/St. Paul - (October 9, 2007) - On Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, the Star Tribune introduces news sections with zoned content tailored to the interests of the people who live and work in the north metro, south metro, east metro, and Minneapolis and the western suburbs. The sections replace Twin Cities+Region to provide more intensely local coverage of the designated areas every day.
“We have had tremendous success with our weekly community sections,” said Chris Harte, publisher and chairman of the Star Tribune. “Now we are expanding the local news concept to our daily newspaper where readers can expect more news about their local community, more often.”
Each section – North Metro, South Metro, East Metro and Twin Cities West – will have its own reporters, who will focus on community news that means the most to readers, including schools, sports, construction, crime, business, arts and the environment. Readers will be encouraged to submit nature photos and letters, and, weekly, each section will feature an interesting person who lives in the community.
In addition, the sections include all of the metro and state news that was in Twin Cities+Region, plus obituaries, weather and columnists C.J., Nick Coleman and Katherine Kersten. Readers can expect to see more coverage of their local teams more often with prep sports coverage in the new sections and all week in Sports.
StarTribune.com readers can expect to find destinations for North, South, East, West, and Minneapolis and St. Paul audiences. Information is updated seven days a week on the website.
