Politically Connected website covers Minnesota and national politics - New Minnesota Poll results online todayMinneapolis/St. Paul - (October 1, 2007) - Politically Connected, the Star Tribune’s new website covering Minnesota and national politics, debuts today with exclusive Minnesota Poll results about the U.S. Senate race.
Over the next week-and-a-half, Politically Connected will publish polls about the job approval ratings for Minnesota’s other major office-holders, as well as Minnesotans’ views on Iraq, bridge safety and the mortgage lending industry’s problems. The stories also will appear in the Star Tribune newspaper after their release on Politically Connected.
Politically Connected will showcase the paper’s political reporting from Washington to the State Capitol to local city halls. It also sweeps in political content from across the Internet, providing visitors with an all-purpose portal to the world of politics -- both near and nationwide.
Dennis McGrath, editor of Politically Connected, said the site will cut through the clutter and the static, and assemble the latest news, blogosphere buzz, commentary and campaign finance data in one place – allowing the site’s visitors to spend less time searching for political news and more time actually reading, watching and debating it.
“Minnesotans are among the most politically active citizens in the nation, leading the way in voter turnout in virtually every election,” McGrath said. “We believe Politically Connected will find a large audience because readers are enthusiastic when we provide the information they want in order to cast an informed vote. This site will be equally useful for typical voters and political junkies alike.”
The site is designed to allow visitors to get information quickly -- or to dig in and examine how the candidates have voted and what they’ve said on key issues, where they’re getting their money, what topics they’re highlighting on their own campaign websites and what everyone from bloggers to columnists to the national media are saying about them.
Today’s launch is an initial phase, with enhancements and more content to be added in phases. Key features on Politically Connected will include:
Pig’s Eye Podcast: A weekly podcast about Minnesota politics, hosted by veteran Star Tribune journalists – Dennis McGrath, Politics and Government Editor Doug Tice and Editorial Writer and Columnist Lori Sturdevant.
