Jonathan Liu is 2007 Twin Cities Metro Spelling Bee championMinneapolis/St. Paul - (March 20, 2007) - Jonathan Liu an eighth-grade student from Central Middle School in Eden Prairie triumphed after 20 grueling rounds against 29 other champion fifth- through eighth-grade spellers to win the 2007 Twin Cities Metro Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Star Tribune. This is Jonathan’s second consecutive win at the Twin Cities Metro Spelling Bee.
Jonathan, the son Jing Wen and JJ Liu of Eden Prairie, won this year’s event by correctly spelling “bouffant,” which means a puffed-out or voluminous hairstyle.
As the new metro area champion, Jonathan receives a trip for two to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., May 30-31, 2007, courtesy of the Star Tribune. He receives a $100 savings bond, a Merriam Webster dictionary and a one-year subscription to Encyclopedia Britannica online in recognition of his victory.
