Twin Cities Metro Spelling Bee

Minneapolis/St. Paul - (March 16, 2007) - Media Alert for Twin Cities Metro Spelling Bee, March 20, 2007

WHO: Twenty-eight fifth- through eighth-grade spelling champions from metro-area counties, each of whom qualified for the Bee by successfully competing at the semi-finals held at the Star Tribune March 8.

WHAT: The Twin Cities Metro Spelling Bee, a division of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, sponsored locally by the Star Tribune.

WHEN: Tuesday, March 20, 2007, 6 p.m.

WHERE: Minnesota History Center

HOW: The bee will take place in rounds, with the winner being determined by process of elimination.

The new metro area champion will receive a trip for two to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C., May 30-31, courtesy of the Star Tribune.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the Star Tribune has sponsored the local spelling bees, which are for fifth- through eighth-grade students. Newspaper sponsorship is a requirement for the local bees that feed the national event.
