Speakers and dates for the 2006 Star Tribune Women’s Lecture Series presented by Herberger’s and produced by SMART TALK are:

Brooke Shields - SUDDENLY STRONGER

Tuesday, January 31, 7:30 p.m.

For almost four decades, Brooke Shields has been in the public eye, as the Ivory Snow baby, top fashion model, Princeton honors student, award winning actress and, most recently, author of Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression. Throughout her career, she has endured controversy, stalkers, divorce and a loved one's suicide, but nothing compared to the devastating effect the birth of her daughter, Rowan, had on her in 2003. Charismatic, funny and honest, Brooke Shields will lead you down her incredible road to recovery.

Billie Jean King - THE LEGEND, CLOSE UP

Monday, February 27, 7:30 p.m.

As one of the 20th century's most respected women, Billie Jean King has long been a champion of social change and equality. Through her foundation, World Team Tennis Charities, King works to inspire all humankind in the pursuit of excellence regardless of race, gender, physical or mental challenges, appearance or sexual orientation. King created new inroads for women in and out of sports and she continues to make her mark today. Don't miss this rare chance to hear Billie Jean King serve up the life story that has made her a legend.

Soledad O'Brien - STYLE AND SUBSTANCE

Tuesday, March 28, 7:30 p.m.

Millions of Americans begin their day with Soledad O'Brien. She is a Harvard graduate, a mother of four children under the age of 5 (including twins born last summer) and she rises each day at 4 a.m. to co anchor CNN's top rated American Morning. From managing a family to reporting on the world's most challenging media events, such as John F. Kennedy Jr.'s plane crash, the London terrorism attacks and the aftermath of the South Asian tsunami, Soledad O'Brien is a woman of fabulous style and substance.

Lynne Truss - THE PUNCTUATION GAME

Tuesday, April 11, 7:30 p.m.

Commas, semi colons, apostrophes, oh my! If you missed out in grade school, then get ready for a grammar treat with a cherry on top. No one has ever made the proper placement of a comma as meaningful, funny and entertaining as Lynne Truss. Her #1 international bestseller, Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation, has turned the banal subject of punctuation into must read material. A former journalist for The Times of London, she was warned that such a book would be ''commercial suicide.'' When the book hit #1 worldwide, she knew that punctuation was finally making its mark.

Geena Davis - A COMMANDING PRESENCE

Thursday, May 18, 7:30 p.m.

A list actress, Mensa member, competitive archer, pianist, model, producer, founder of an organization promoting gender equity and mother - why wouldn't we want Geena Davis to run the country? In her newest television role as the first female president of the United States, she continues her trailblazing ways that began long ago when she starred in the film Thelma & Louise. With this film, an anthem for female empowerment, Geena Davis helped redefine the role of women in Hollywood for a new generation. In 1988, she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Accidental Tourist and cemented her place in the upper echelon of Hollywood. Since then, her career has continued to rise and now Geena Davis, is definitely in a league of her own.

The 2006 Star Tribune Women’s Lecture Series is presented by Herberger’s with additional sponsorship support from the Minneapolis Community and Technical College.
