Rene Sanchez named Sunday editor at Star TribuneMinneapolis/St. Paul - (July 25, 2005) - Rene Sanchez has been named the Star Tribune’s Sunday editor, Editor Anders Gyllenhaal announced today.
Sanchez joined the Star Tribune last fall after 17 years at the Washington Post. In his new role as Sunday editor he will be responsible for working across the newsroom to develop stories and visuals and set the lineup for the Sunday news sections.
“This is a job that requires an eye for enterprise stories, skillful writing ability and a diplomatic touch to balance all of the competing demands of a newsroom,” said Gyllenhaal. “Rene, in his short stint here and his long tenure at the Post, has demonstrated that he excels in these areas.”
Sanchez has an extensive reporting background. In his 17 years at the Post, he covered law enforcement, schools, city hall and general assignment. He was the Post’s national education reporter for four years before settling in Los Angeles, where he covered a wide range of stories in California and across the West. He was the bureau chief in Los Angeles during his last year there.
Sanchez started his career at the Times Picayune in New Orleans, where he was a night police reporter and a part-time features writer. He will start his new job in mid August.
Sanchez has a bachelors degree in journalism from Loyola University (New Orleans).
