Duchesne Drew named assistant managing editor for Business at Star TribuneMinneapolis/St. Paul - (July 25, 2005) - Duchesne Drew has been named the assistant managing editor for Business at the Star Tribune, Editor Anders Gyllenhaal announced today.
In his new role, Drew will be in charge of all Star Tribune business coverage. Previously he was head of the Star Tribune’s St. Paul Bureau for the last two and a half years.
In addition to his work as a reporter and editor, Drew has been a leader in representing the Star Tribune as a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, National Association of Black Journalists and Investigative Reporters and Editors. He also served as a volunteer with the Urban Journalism Workshop, a program that introduces talented, young high school students to the world of journalism through a summer residential program at St. Thomas University.
“Duchesne’s experience will serve him well in helping to lead our business staff,” said Gyllenhaal. “Our business reporters must compete daily on national beats such as retail, medical technology, food and airlines. Duchesne's competitive spirit will be important as we take our coverage to the next level.”
Prior to starting the St. Paul position in February of 2003, Drew was an assistant team leader on the Star Tribune’s Metro Team. He also held positions as an education reporter and a general assignment reporter at the Star Tribune, and as an education reporter at the Dallas Morning News. He began his journalism career in 1993 with internships at both the Orange County Register and the Star Tribune.
Drew has a masters degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a bachelors degree in history from Columbia University.
Drew replaces Nancy Barnes, who recently was named deputy managing editor for enterprise at the Star Tribune.
