Star Tribune Foundation Announces $551,085 in Twin Cities GrantsMinneapolis/St. Paul - (June 15, 2005) - The Star Tribune Foundation announced 40 Twin Cities grants totaling $451,085. The grants were approved by the Foundation’s Board of Directors at its quarterly meeting May 19, 2005. Many of the recently awarded grants will be used for programs that provide kids with activities before and after school and during the summer.
The Foundation has four broad areas of focus:
- child-centric programs
- programs that help people to move from dependency to self-reliance
- cultural programs with emphasis on preeminent arts institutions and writing-related programs
- programs that foster civic involvement, media-related issues and media education.
An additional $100,000 from the Star Tribune Foundation was awarded as 34 small grants, as designated by the Employee Contributions Committee.
The Employee Contributions Committee will award $200,000 in grants this year; with the remainder of the grants will be awarded in August.
The Star Tribune Foundation has been supporting Twin Cities' communities since 1945 and currently distributes about $3 million annually.
