Star Tribune/ Minnesota State High School League Newspaper Challenge winners announced

Minneapolis/St. Paul - (May 17, 2005) - Albert Lea High School’s Ahlahasa (Riley Worth, teacher/advisor) took the top honors as Best Newspaper among Class AA student newspapers for the second consecutive year in the High School Newspaper Challenge. St. Paul Academy and Summit School’s Rubicon (Ellen Austin, teacher/advisor) was named Best Newspaper in Class A.

The Star Tribune and the Minnesota State High School League created the contest to encourage and recognize excellence among high school newspapers and student journalists in the state. “This contest offers the Star Tribune and the League a perfect opportunity to recognize student journalists,” said Howard W. Voigt, League director of information.

Judging took place in April, with 123 entries submitted by 36 schools. Star Tribune newsroom leaders served as judges. Winning entries will be published in the League’s Fall 2005 Bulletin. The Star Tribune Foundation will award $6,000 in grants — $1,500, $1,000 and $500, respectively — to the top three schools with the best overall newspapers in each class. Second and third place winners in the Best Newspaper category were:
