MINNEAPOLIS – March 12, 2014 – Star Tribune Media Co., Minnesota’s largest news organization, today announced it has named Suki Dardarian its new senior managing editor and vice president, effective April 21.
Dardarian joins the Star Tribune after a distinguished 14-year career at the Seattle Times. For four years there, she was the managing editor directing news and enterprise coverage. During that time, the Seattle Times won a 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News for its print and real-time digital coverage of the slaying of four police officers and the intensive manhunt for the killer. Dardarian then spent two years as the managing editor for digital operations, overseeing seattletimes.com, which was honored by the Online News Association for general excellence.
Prior to those roles, she led the local news staff as assistant managing editor/metro, and served as deputy managing editor, overseeing the Sunday edition of the Seattle Times. Since last fall, she has also worked across the company as a top strategist on audience development, digital innovation, and community engagement.
In addition to her leadership at The Seattle Times, Dardarian is a past president of the Associated Press Media Editors and a two-time Pulitzer Prize juror.
“The Star Tribune is truly fortunate to have Suki join our team here in Minnesota,” said Rene Sanchez, editor and senior vice president. “She is an exceptional editor with a long and stellar record of delivering great journalism and leading newsroom innovation.”
“I’m honored to join the Star Tribune at such an exciting time and to be able to work with a team so committed to quality journalism,” said Dardarian. “I’m also looking forward to exploring a new and beautiful part of the country.”
