On September 28, 2009, the Star Tribune emerged from bankruptcy with a stronger balance sheet, significantly less debt and substantially reduced operating costs. On January 15, 2009, the company filed a voluntary petition to reorganize under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
On June 18, 2009, the Star Tribune filed is proposed Plan of Reorganization and related Disclosure Statement with the Bankruptcy Court. The plan, which was overwhelmingly supported by the company's creditors, was confirmed on September 17, 2009.
During the reorganization process, the Star Tribune has continued to operate as usual and to continue to publish its award-winning newspaper and website without interruption.
