David J. Walsh was named senior vice president of advertising at the Minneapolis Star Tribune in February of 2008. Prior to joining the Star Tribune, Walsh worked in a variety of positions within the Tribune Company, most recently as vice president of advertising for the Los Angeles Times. Before joining the Times in 2005, he served as vice president of Tribune Interactive, overseeing print and online classified advertising strategies for 10 Tribune newspapers. Prior to that, Walsh was president of RELCON, Inc., a niche publishing company based in Oak Brook, Illinois.

Walsh was born in Chicago Illinois. He earned a bachelors of science degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 1985. At Illinois, he was an elected member of the student faculty Senate. After graduation, he served 3 terms as a director of the University of Illinois Alumni Board. In 2000, he completed the General Management executive program at Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts.

Walsh was a founding member of Under 40, Inc., a non-profit organization that was tasked with involving young people in the political process in Illinois. Additionally, he served as a business unit chairperson for the United Way of Northern Illinois in 2004. He has also been actively involved in several local and state wide political campaigns. In Los Angeles, Walsh served on the board of the Los Angeles Sports Council.

He currently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Chicago, Illinois.
