Protecting the Environment
The Star Tribune is committed to doing its part to protect the environment. An active recycling program in Star Tribune facilities minimizes waste by recycling paper, glass, plastic, aluminum cans, magazines, batteries, toner cartridges and light bulbs. Additional steps are taken at the Heritage production facility where the newspaper is printed:
* All waste ink is recycled.
* Aluminum plates used to print the newspaper are recycled.
* Newsprint (paper) waste is recycled.
* The newsprint used to print the daily paper contains 40 percent recycled paper.
Consumers can join in the recycling effort by putting the plastic bags used to deliver their newspapers into containers bearing these signs at local Cub, Lunds, Byerly's or Kowalski's stores.
